Blog EntryFriday 5 - My "To Do Before I Die" ListApr 25, '08 11:29 AM
for everyone

Hello everyone it's that time of the week again for Friday Five this week's theme is brought to you by kwika. This week’s theme is five things on your "to do before you die" list. It could be historical, public or personal be sure to check his page out http://kwika.multiply.com/ Copy this to your blog, including your responses, and be sure to come back here to add your link to the comments. Remember we decided that only the weekly prompts would be posted to the Group Blog.  Any other questions, comments, or suggestions should be posted in comments or to the Group Notes.

Only five?!!!  OK................

1.  Tour Italy.  It has been a dream of mine forever.  Mr. Fuzzy has family there so we will always have someplace to stay.   Tuscany is first on my list.

2.  Create a family cookbook with my favorite recipes.  I want it to be handed down through the generations.

3.  This one is probably on a lot of people's to do list.  Put all of my photos on disks.  It's just too overwhelming to think about.  All that scanning and editing.  YIKES!

4.  Complete my family tree project.  I have traced one side of the family back to 1697 and am not sure if I can get any further back with it.  There is still a lot of work to do on my Dad's side and I probably won't be very successful.  There just doesn't seem to be enough documentation but I'm not giving up.  I will eventually put it into a book to give it to my children.

5.  What I have always told my children.  I want to live long enough to be a burden to them.  It's only fair.  They think I'm kidding.

I'd love to explore my family tree as well. I have a family member who has done a very good job with one branch, so far.

I wish you luck on #3. That does sound like a lot of work!

Great answers! I'd love to tour Italy too! The family cookbook is also a good idea, as well as the photos on disk. I have quite a few on disk already, but it would take me forEVER to get all the years of pictures I have on disk. This is because I have a lot of my grandmother's pictures and my mom's pictures too. Some day maybe.... I was fortunate to have grandparents on both sides of the family who did extensive family trees, and I have copies of them. It is so interesting to know who my distant relatives are and where they came from, etc..... your number 5 was funny.... gotta love that one! Your page is cute! Thanks for stopping by and leaving me a comment on my blog...

My sister has been working on #2. Most of her (and my) recipes are on papers, note cards, etc, waiting to be collected into a cookbook. I started putting some of my photos on CD. I've got three filled so far and could probably fill up three more. #4 - I had started a family tree project, too! My father's side is hard to trace when I got to my paternal grandmother because her family is Cherokee Indian and there are little to no records for them.

As a family historian.. I can so relate to your list. Great ideas. I want to be a burden to mine, too. (and not just about our family tree!) *smile*

great list - if you ever get over to Italy, check out a town called Reggio Emilia, they have a fantastic set up for children's education!

Do #2. I was surprised to hear my son say to his grandmother one day that he needed her to write down all of her dishes so the family would never forget them. He's started making many of her recipies so he know how to pass them on to his kids.

Great answers. #3-yes, I thought with a digital camera I'd get to see my photos more (with film I kept forgetting to get it developed). Now I take tons of photos, get them to the computer but don't always organize them and back up. I need to do it quick - big fear, computer crash and lots of money needed to retrieve the "lost" photos! I'm going to do an external hard drive instead of burning to disks. #4-I'm our family historian and I don't think the tree will ever be "finished" - I keep branching off and finding more stuff - parts of the family are back to the 1600's but then others are only as far as the early 1900's! Lots of brick walls - especially in Pennsylvania! My husband's father's family is from the Calabria area of Italy but we haven't found much on that end either. I love the search though, it's mystery, it's exciting! =)

Aw, I forgot about all the family photos! I started scanning them a while back, but the project got pushed to the side. Must get back to that!
